Why Targeted Psoas Training Is Essential for Your Active Dog!
This Course Is Designed by Jana Gams, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine,
Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner, and Active Competitor in Agility and FCI Obedience
Force, a two-year-old black Lab, was diagnosed in late summer 2024 with iliopsoas tendinopathy (left: grade II/III, right: grade I/III) and left stifle inflammation, suggesting a CCL sprain. Though not lame, he struggled to run or swim straight, affecting his Retriever Field Trials training.
Our goal was to help Force recover and stay injury-free in his sport. A high-drive retriever, he moves at full speed with little regard for his body. Before starting Jana’s fitness program, he showed poor posture, with a butterfly sit and roached back.
Jana designed a structured program with five days of exercises, walking, and two rest days. Force also received daily laser therapy and PT evaluations. We met via Zoom to assess progress and adjust exercises. I sent videos to Jana for feedback in Force’s online classroom.
Within 12 weeks, his left iliopsoas and stifle fully recovered, impressing our sports medicine vet. His right iliopsoas took 24 weeks but also healed completely. Force is now cleared to return to retrieving, with a maintenance plan of three exercise days and endurance conditioning.
Initially devastated by his diagnosis, I now feel optimistic about his future in the sport. Jana’s expertise, customized exercises, and ongoing support were invaluable. The conditioning classes on Dogs4Motion Academy also provide clear guidance, making structured training easy to follow.
Yuma (Malinois) injured her iliopsoas during IGP training. She’s high-energy and always gives 200%. 😊 After the injury, Dogs4Motion quickly diagnosed the issue, and we began therapy and exercises.
Strengthening her body was crucial for IGP, which demands heavy loads on the dog. Our training became a ritual we both enjoy, and even my younger pup, Bali, is starting to prepare for the future.
Working with Dogs4Motion gave me invaluable knowledge for training and injury prevention. Their online course is well-structured, guiding you from theory to practical exercises with clear demonstrations.
I highly recommend it to anyone active with their dog – injuries can be prevented, and early issues spotted before they become serious!
I own two Border Collies, both of whom have suffered iliopsoas injuries. My male was already retired, but my female, Lane, was injured in the fall of 2023 during her active agility career at just six years old. Proper rehab was crucial for her recovery and return to sport.
Living in Slovenia, I was fortunate to visit Dogs4Motion within 48 hours of the injury. Jana confirmed the diagnosis and designed a rehab plan with fitness exercises, gradually increasing walks, and monthly check-ups.
After three months, Lane safely returned to high-level agility, and in fall of 2024, we even competed at the Agility World
Championship completely injury-free. Dogs4Motion was with us every step of the way.
I’m incredibly grateful to their team, not only for Lane’s recovery but also for teaching me canine fitness and assessment tools. I still use their exercises in our warm-ups and cool-downs.
Even if you’re not in Slovenia, Dogs4Motion offers remote consultations and online courses. With the right rehab, your dog can recover and return to an active life – Dogs4Motion is just one click away!

❌ Most general fitness programs don’t focus on strengthening the psoas properly.
Most “core exercises” don’t activate the iliopsoas properly. Sit-to-stands, balance drills, and wobble board work may improve general stability, but they fail to target the muscle through its full range of motion. This leaves it underdeveloped and prone to strain.
❌ Neglecting psoas-specific conditioning leads to hidden weaknesses (Hint: If you’re into dog sports and active lifestyle, this is something you’ll want to pay special attention to!).
The iliopsoas is the powerhouse behind explosive acceleration, jumping, and controlled deceleration. If it’s weak, your dog may struggle with speed, turning efficiency, and agility – even if they look strong on the surface. Over time, this leads to compensatory movement patterns and increased stress on joints and other muscles.
❌ Free online advice can be misleading and incomplete.
Many dog owners search for exercises but end up with generic stretching routines or scattered drills that don’t progressively build strength. Without a structured plan, training can be ineffective – or worse, increase the risk of injury.
❌ Skipping structured progression puts your dog at risk.
Jumping straight into advanced training without first developing foundational strength sets the iliopsoas up for strain and setbacks. Dogs need a step-by-step approach that gradually strengthens and conditions this crucial muscle before introducing high-impact movements.
❌ A dog that “looks fine” after an injury may still be at risk.
Iliopsoas injuries don’t always present obvious symptoms, and many dogs return to activity before the muscle has fully regained its strength. Without proper rehabilitation and reconditioning, the risk of re-injury and long-term movement limitations is significantly higher.
With over 20 years of experience in dog training, I’ve worked with countless dogs to improve their strength and performance.
As a veterinarian specializing in canine rehabilitation, I’ve seen how targeted conditioning plays a crucial role in injury prevention.
Proper iliopsoas strengthening can make all the difference in building resilience and long-term mobility.
The right training makes all the difference!
I understand how frustrating it is to see a dog that looks fit still struggling with mobility issues or unexpected injuries.
Many owners don’t realize that core training alone doesn’t fully engage the psoas, leaving this crucial muscle underdeveloped and prone to strain.
Contrary to popular belief, injury prevention isn’t just about stretching or doing general strength work.
It requires a structured, progressive approach that strengthens the iliopsoas through its full range of motion.
A strong psoas improves acceleration, stability, and coordination, making movements smoother and reducing the load on other muscle groups.
Dogs don’t suffer psoas injuries simply due to bad luck or isolated incidents.
Most injuries result from cumulative stress on a weak muscle that was never properly conditioned.
By understanding this, we stop chasing short-term fixes and start building true, sport-specific strength that lasts.
When you follow a structured plan that activates, strengthens, and stabilizes the iliopsoas, you’re not just preventing injuries – you’re setting your dog up for lifelong movement efficiency and optimal performance.
This shift in approach has changed the way we train, and it has helped countless dogs stay strong, powerful, and injury-free.
✅ Say Goodbye to the Guesswork.
Know exactly which exercises to do, in what order, and how to progress – no more wondering if your training is effective.
✅ Build Strength That Lasts.
A strong psoas isn’t just about avoiding injuries – it’s about efficient movement, powerful acceleration, and smoother performance in daily activities and sports.
✅ Ease Stress & Enhance Calm.
A well-conditioned psoas doesn’t just boost physical performance – it also helps alleviate tension and reduce stress. By promoting a relaxed, balanced core, your dog can experience smoother, calmer movements and quicker recovery after high-energy activities.
✅ Prevent the “What If” Moments.
What if your dog lands wrong? What if they push too hard? With properly trained iliopsoas, their body is ready to handle high-impact movements safely.
✅ Turn Weakness Into Resilience.
No more worrying about whether your dog’s muscles can support their active lifestyle. This program rebuilds strength from the inside out, preventing strain and unnecessary wear.
✅ Enjoy Confidence in Every Step.
Whether on hikes, in agility courses, or everyday movement, your dog will move with power and stability – and you’ll feel good knowing you’ve set them up for long-term health.
I started working with Jana almost 3 years ago and ever since, she has been an indispensable part of our training plan. She is always there for us – for conditioning plan and workout (her tips on how to get a specific move from your dog are priceless) or regular preventive check ups and massages. Regardless of what your dogs needs are, Jana always adapts to their individual needs. She is kind and with an amazing feeling and desire to help dogs to be in best shape possible. She gives her heart into every single one of her animal clients and treats them as they were her own. I’m grateful I have a chance to work with such a person as Jana is. And seeing how my dogs adores her, I’m quite certain they feel the same. Thank you Jana!
Just like with human atheletes, also with dogs the major preparation starts away from the main sport. Dogs4Motion offers the whole package; Off the competition season my dogs besides daily hikes mostly do dog fitness and hydrotherapy to stay in shape as only strong and fit dogs will be able to compete in the highest level injury free. Combined with regular physiotherapy I strongly believe this is the way to get dogs best! All my dogs are happy to be a part of Dogs4Motion team!
Your active dog needs strong muscles to handle physical demands without strain or chronic tightness.
A strong psoas means greater strength, smoother turns, and better stability, helping your dog reach peak performance.
They’ve been cleared for exercise, but you need a safe, structured plan to rebuild strength and restore confidence in movement.
Even if your dog hasn’t had an issue yet, proactive strengthening protects against future injuries and supports healthy movement for years to come.
If your dog competes in agility, obedience, or other high-impact sports, targeted conditioning ensures they stay at their best.
Strengthening the psoas helps older dogs maintain balance, coordination, and freedom of movement well into their senior years.

Your Dog is Experiencing
Acute Pain or Limping:
Strength training is crucial for injury prevention, but rehabilitation comes first. Pain must be addressed before progressing to this program.
2.
You’re Looking
For a Quick Fix:
True injury prevention and strength-building require consistency and progression. This isn’t a one-time solution.
3.
You Believe General
Conditioning is Enough:
While overall fitness is beneficial, the iliopsoas needs specific, progressive strengthening to remain resilient under stress.

… Now you can follow a proven, step-by-step, veterinary-backed system designed to build real strength, prevent injuries, and boost performance – all in one structured program, at a fraction of the cost of rehab or vet treatments!
Before strengthening the iliopsoas, it’s essential to understand its function and identify common weaknesses. This phase teaches you why psoas strength matters, how it impacts movement, and what mistakes to avoid. With simple assessment techniques, you’ll learn to recognize imbalances, movement compensations, and early warning signs of strain.
A strong iliopsoas starts with proper activation and core control. In this step, your dog will develop foundational core engagement, hip stability, and controlled movement patterns. You’ll focus on slow, deliberate exercises that ensure the psoas is properly activated before progressing to full-strength work.
Once your dog can engage the psoas correctly, it’s time to gradually introduce progressive strengthening exercises. This phase strengthens the muscle through its full range of motion, moving from static holds to controlled movement drills. The focus is on building endurance, power, and coordination so that your dog can maintain strength and stability in real-world activities.
A strong psoas isn’t useful unless it translates into better movement and reduced injury risk in daily activities or sports. This phase bridges the gap between conditioning and performance, applying strength gains to acceleration, turning, and jumping movements. Whether your dog competes or is simply active, this step ensures strength translates into real-world functionality.
True resilience isn’t built in a day, but it’s maintained over time. In this final phase, you’ll integrate structured warm-ups, cool-downs, and progressive mobility routines to ensure ongoing psoas health. You’ll also learn how to recognize signs of fatigue, imbalance, or potential strain, so your dog stays strong and injury-free for years to come.
»Very nice explanations, diverse progressive exercises even for beginners, abundant videos, diagrams, and PDFs.«
Easy to find a specific exercise you would want to go over again. The videos are very helpful. Especially when they are close up.

Sport-Ready Performance Conditioning
Designed to improve speed, endurance, and agility while reducing injury risks in high-impact activities like agility, obedience, and working dog sports. Strengthening the iliopsoas enhances movement efficiency, helping dogs perform at their best while staying injury-free.
This course is the product of science-based, veterinary, and canine sport medicinal knowledge, published research, personal experience from working in canine rehabilitation, and hands-on agility training experience.
Proper conditioning and strength training can reduce iliopsoas injuries by up to 60%.
19.4% of all agility dog injuries involve the iliopsoas muscle, making it one of the most frequently injured muscle groups in canine athletes.
Dogs with weak core muscles and poor pelvic stability are at a higher risk of developing iliopsoas injuries.
Featured Video: I Work with Many Canine Athletes on a Daily Basis as the Founder of the Dogs4motion, Veterinary Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Center in Slovenia.
Hey, I’m Jana!
As a veterinarian specializing in canine rehabilitation and sports medicine, I’ve worked with countless active and performance dogs – both in injury recovery and in preventive conditioning.
Through my experience, I quickly learned to recognize the difference between a strong, well-conditioned dog and one that is unknowingly setting itself up for strain, setbacks, and long recovery times.
Far too many dogs suffer avoidable injuries simply because their training lacks targeted strengthening for one of the most overworked yet undertrained muscles in the canine body – the iliopsoas.
Time and time again, I saw promising dogs struggle with recurring injuries, frustrating their owners and limiting their potential.
That’s why I created Psoas Power – a structured, veterinary-backed approach to strengthening the iliopsoas and preventing unnecessary pain and setbacks.
This system has become a go-to resource for dog owners, trainers, and competitors worldwide looking to build lasting strength, improve performance, and safeguard their dogs from one of the most common yet overlooked injuries.
Here’s my promise to you:
You’ll understand exactly why the iliopsoas is crucial for movement, stability, and performance.
You’ll learn the precise exercises needed to build real strength and resilience.
Your dog will have a structured, progressive training system to stay strong, prevent injuries, and perform at their best – whether in sports, work, or daily life.
My goal with Psoas Power is simple: to provide every dog owner with the tools and knowledge to build lasting strength, improve mobility, and prevent injuries before they happen.

I am so confident with this course that I am willing to “put my money where my mouth is” and back up your purchase with a 100 % money-back guarantee.
If you don’t feel like this course is the right fit for you, I’ll refund every cent you paid – no questions asked.
Your satisfaction matters, and I want you to feel confident in your decision to invest in this program.
Dogs give their best every time they step on the training/competition field and doing my best to keep them healthy and physically prepared for all the challenges, is something I owe them as the owner and handler. And just because of that, Jana’s conditioning classes are a huge part of our training and warming up/cooling down routine.
All exercises are designed in a way to make it as safe for the dog as possible, she puts a lot of attention to details (which is REALLY important when we come to conditioning) and on top of that, Jana knows really well how to adapt to every individual dog and give them what they need the most (when you have breeds that are not really “social butterflies”, working with someone who understands dog’s character is really important).
So thank you Jana for your great classes and for all the “live” training and check-ups! It means a lot to me, to have someone so skilled watching over my dogs!
Instead of random exercises, this program follows a step-by-step program – from foundational stability to dynamic power movements – so your dog builds true functional strength that translates into performance, mobility, and long-term health.
With expert guidance, clear structure, and targeted techniques, Psoas Power gives you the missing link in canine conditioning – helping your dog move better, perform stronger, and stay active for years to come.
There’s no minimum or maximum age requirement for this program! Whether you have a young dog building a strong foundation or a senior dog needing gentle strengthening, the exercises are safe, adaptable, and designed for all life stages. With lifetime access, you can start with foundational work and progress at a pace that suits your dog’s needs.
Core workouts and regular exercise don’t always strengthen the iliopsoas. Most generic fitness programs fail to target this key muscle, leaving even active dogs prone to strain and imbalances. Psoas Power fills this gap with exercises designed to properly engage and strengthen the iliopsoas for better movement and injury prevention.
You don’t need hours of training to see results. The structured exercises take just a few minutes per session and can be easily added to warm-ups, cool-downs, or strength routines. This program fits into your existing schedule, ensuring consistent progress without added stress.
Iliopsoas injuries are one of the most common muscle-related issues in active dogs, often going unnoticed until they cause stiffness or weakness. Strengthening before problems arise helps prevent setbacks and keeps your dog moving powerfully and without limitations. Psoas Power ensures long-term resilience, so your dog can stay active and injury-free.
»100/100 … All the exercises are really clear, it’s going to make a big difference, the most complete training I’ve taken.«
Lucie Dessureault
I love the course, and all the detailed explanations and exercises and we are looking forward to starting an agility fitness programme to give my dog more health and strength and to prevent any possible injuries.

Not at all! This course is designed with progressive training in mind, starting with foundational exercises before moving to more advanced variations.
Whether you’re a beginner or have prior experience, you’ll receive step-by-step guidance to ensure your training is safe, effective, and easy to follow at every stage.
You don’t need hours of training! Just a few minutes, 2-3 times per week can already make a noticeable difference. This program is designed to be easy to integrate into your routine, whether you’re training for performance or just want to improve your dog’s overall fitness.
Yes, if your dog has been cleared for exercise by a vet or rehab specialist. This program includes structured, progressive exercises designed to safely rebuild strength and restore confidence in movement. However, if your dog is still in acute pain or limping, focus on early rehab first before beginning strength work.
We recommend:
Yes. The access to the content platform is lifetime, and it is very easy to use and navigate.
Currently, the course is only available in English, but it does come with English subtitles.
By now, you’ve likely realized what happens when the iliopsoas isn’t properly conditioned – whether it’s reduced performance, stiffness after activity, or even a full-blown injury.
Recovery is always harder and longer than prevention, making proactive strengthening the smarter choice.
The iliopsoas drives your dog’s movement, power, and stability – but without targeted activation and structured progression, this crucial muscle will remain weak, leaving your dog vulnerable to setbacks and reduced performance.
You Have Three Options:
1.
Keep doing what you’re doing. Maybe your dog is already active, and that feels like enough. But is their movement truly balanced and strong, or are weaknesses developing beneath the surface?
2.
Try to piece together information from free resources. But without a structured, expert-backed plan, how do you know if you’re strengthening the right muscles? And are you risking reinforcing bad movement patterns
3.
Follow a proven, step-by-step system designed by a professional. Psoas Power removes the guesswork. With targeted exercises, structured progressions, and expert guidance, you’ll be building true resilience, movement efficiency, and long-term strength – the right way.
Whatever you choose, I encourage you to take action, because there’s no worse feeling than being stuck.
I hope to see you inside the course!
