Dog Owners' Regret:

Overlooking Puppyhood's Unique Learning Potential

Your puppy’s brain is like a sponge!

It absorbs everything that’s happening around them.

Are you fully aware of how crucial the first few months of your puppy’s life are in shaping their long-term health, physical and mental abilities?

See …

Learning how to use your body is like learning a language.

It comes more naturally to us if we start at an early age.

You are at the right place at the right time, if you are ready to harness that to help them be more physically capable, sharp, and eager to learn.

I know you can’t wait to get started on different activities like hiking and sports …

And I’m sure you want to give them the absolute most to help them develop their bodies, and nurture their learning abilities.

But at the same time, you want to make the most of their puppyhood now and do what is right for them at the age they are at.

I want to congratulate you for that!

I know that sometimes it can feel overwhelming.

Like wanting to do everything at once but having to wait for your puppy to grow up at the same time.

Following all the rules for what is physically acceptable to do with your puppy can also be scary and you are probably questioning yourself:

»How much is my puppy allowed to do?«

»Will this help them in the long term?«

»Can it be dangerous for their health?«

»Am I too late with training?«

All of these are valid concerns.

When I Brought Tide Home Last Year,
I Was Over the Moon!

I was excited to bring a new family member home and had ambitious plans for our time together.

I envisioned going on long walks, trying out agility, obedience, and herding – activities we would truly enjoy in the future.

However, Tide was still young and only learning his name at that stage.

I reminded myself to let him grow and develop at his own pace.

I understood that, like children, puppies need guidance as they take in information about the world.

I felt the weight of the responsibility of guiding a puppy.

I knew it was crucial to prepare his mind and body for his active adult life.

Teaching him how to use his body was essential, especially if we were to participate in different sports like obedience and agility.

Although I had to wait for his joints to fully develop before engaging in serious sports activities, I took it upon myself to give him the best start in life.

I taught him how to move and problem-solve while his brain was still growing.

I’m glad I did because today I’m reaping the results.

By working through this course at his own pace, Tide learned to enjoy working with me and now cannot wait for it to be his turn.

We have built strong foundational behaviours which can be turned into proper workouts now that he is older. 👍

This would not have been possible without the Fundamentals for Puppies online course.

A course I’ve created with active dogs in mind.

I will guide you within this course so you can achieve exactly the same and best prepare your pup, giving him a head start in life!

Just Because Your Puppy Can,
Doesn't Mean They Should!

Puppies should NOT “work out” for muscle mass like adults, because their bodies are still developing.

Relax …

You will discover exactly how puppies learn, how to structure your training sessions and progress effectively.

So they can build confidence and proper mechanics as they grow.

You will also learn, how to teach your puppy how to problem solve and think creatively.

You will discover how to plan age-appropriate short 1-2 minute-long training sessions that are both challenging and enjoyable.

So your puppy can practice multiple times a day.

Exciting right?😃

You will work in a completely safe environment on their skills, such as:

  • Balance
  • Body awareness
  • Coordination
  • Proprioception (develop a healthy sense for their own body)
  • Flexibility
  • Proper muscle activation
  • Improving brain-to-muscle connection
  • Problem solving
  • Creative thinking
  • Understanding
  • Basic obedience
  • Team work

These exercises are designed to develop your puppy’s neuromuscular activity and function.

By teaching your young athlete to utilize their entire body effectively, you lay a strong foundation for their future active lifestyle or sporting endeavors.

In fact, the appropriate amount and type of exercise have been shown to increase bone density and reduce the risk of juvenile bone fractures!

A good conditioning routine also fosters a strong connection with your puppy as they enjoy and learn about reward-based training and cooperation with you. 😍

These are the most important topics we will focus on inside the FUNdamentals for Puppies course.

The Success Stories of Trainers and Competitors
Speak for Themselves

I started working with Jana almost 3 years ago and ever since, she has been an indispensable part of our training plan. She is always there for us – for conditioning plan and workout (her tips on how to get a specific move from your dog are priceless) or regular preventive check ups and massages. Regardless of what your dogs needs are, Jana always adapts to their individual needs. She is kind and with an amazing feeling and desire to help dogs to be in best shape possible. She gives her heart into every single one of her animal clients and treats them as they were her own. I’m grateful I have a chance to work with such a person as Jana is. And seeing how my dogs adores her, I’m quite certain they feel the same. Thank you Jana!
Lea Komat – Slovenia
Agility competitor and instructor, member of Slovenian national team since 2016
Perfect class for building balance and strength for my dogs, super easy to understand and very good feedback!
Lisa Frick – Austria
International dog trainer and handler – 4 times world champion, vice European champion

Dogs give their best every time they step on the training/competition field and doing my best to keep them healthy and physically prepared for all the challenges, is something I owe them as the owner and handler. And just because of that, Jana’s conditioning classes are a huge part of our training and warming up/cooling down routine.

All exercises are designed in a way to make it as safe for the dog as possible, she puts a lot of attention to details (which is REALLY important when we come to conditioning) and on top of that, Jana knows really well how to adapt to every individual dog and give them what they need the most (when you have breeds that are not really “social butterflies”, working with someone who understands dog’s character is really important).

So thank you Jana for your great classes and for all the “live” training and check-ups! It means a lot to me, to have someone so skilled watching over my dogs!

The 3-Part Game Plan for Your
Puppy-Specific Fitness Routine

Here's exactly how you'll do it:

Step 1

Getting familiar with the exercises:

The goal is to develop understanding, confidence and achieve proper form on an easy set-up first.

You will work on things like:

  • How to activate muscles in the correct pattern
  • How to move
  • How to transfer weight
  • How to keep balance
  • How to react to certain moves
  • How to use the gear

Step 2

Progressing is quite literally the progression (upgrade) from the previously taught exercise.

You will work on things like:

  • Changing the setups
  • Approaching the objects from different angles/directions
  • Combining different exercises together

This will further proof and improve your dog’s understanding of the behavior, before you move on to the next level of building the precision.

Step 3

The final step is achieving the most optimal form of performance possible for this behavior.

You will learn all about the proper form for each exercise, what to look for, and how to avoid sloppiness once you start working out.

In the end, this is what we strive for in canine conditioning!

You will be using setups that allow your dog to properly execute the given exercise and maintain the proper form of performance throughout the chosen number of repetitions.

Once your dog has built a solid foundation and is ready, you can gradually increase the level of difficulty of the exercises to challenge them at a new, yet reasonable, level.

Balance and proprioceptive work forms the foundation for all other exercise and activity in our puppies’ lives. We can start to stimulate their balance and proprioception from an early age, and continue to develop these areas by advancing exercises into adulthood.

Featured Video: I Work with Many Canine Athletes on a Daily Basis as the Founder of the Dogs4motion, Veterinary Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Center in Slovenia.

Unveiling the Inspiration Behind My Program Design:
It’s Not What You’d Expect!

I know exactly what it feels like not knowing:

  • Where to start?
  • What to do?
  • How to do it the right way?

Worrying about whether you’re overloading or skipping something.

Being afraid that you’ll do something wrong and harm your loyal buddy.

When I was a veterinary student, I struggled a lot with finding good educational content.

I wanted to help my sweet puppy Genie after she broke her tibia in an accident when she was only 10 weeks old.

I still remember the heartbreaking look of those big sad puppy eyes.

My biggest concern was whether she’d ever be able to be active again.

I had no idea how to prevent her from future compensatory issues.

And above all …

How to enable her to grow up into a healthy, active, and wild adult.

Now I was on the mission – searching for the missing key!

I dug deeper and deeper into the field of canine conditioning, sports medicine, and rehabilitation.

It became my passion, guiding me forward and into the canine rehabilitation field even after I graduated with a degree in veterinary medicine.

I also went on to create a foundational online conditioning academy that changed the lives of thousands!

But, throughout all of this, I continued to compete in agility – I have been an active trainer and competitor in several dog sports with my own dogs for the past 18 years.

All this has helped me to understand their needs better … And how important it is to take care of their well-being – from their puppyhood to their senior years.

And with that, after years of work and research, I finally found the missing key for our beloved athletes:

A full video tutorial on the Balancing the 12 o’clock exercise!

YouTube player

Teaching your dog to balance the 12 o’clock position in front of you is an excellent way to teach your dog the proper mechanics!

Training elements: Proprioception, Balance, Body Awareness

Body areas targeted: hind limbs (abductors and adductors – i.e. the muscles responsible for bringing the leg closer to the body or out from it, glutes), lower back, and the core. Shoulders play a stabilizing role.

Suitable for: puppies aged from 8 weeks on

Nr. of repetitions recommended: equal to the age of your pup in months – 1 quarter of a circle in each direction is 1 repetition – for example: a 3 month old pup can spend up to 3 repetitions moving quarter of a circle in each direction.

Minimal Equipment Needed

You can always just use some stuff from your house inventory!

Two stable platforms that are identical in height, and slightly wider than your dog’s body width.

*I love to use low DIY wooden planks and platforms, but you can use any other object that meets the criteria – such as a book, covered with a non slippery surface, or even foam balance pads that have a pleasant surface to step on.

Two Narrow Planks

You won’t be needing them right away from the start, but it’s nice to have them at hand once we will be refining the posture during a variety of exercises.

A non-slip surface

If you don’t have a floor that is non-slippery, I would advise you to buy a mat or carpet you can put in the room you normally train in or have it movable, like a mat that they use under fitness equipment in the gyms or carpets.

A Set of Bars

For all the cavaletti exercises, you will need a set of cavaletti bars and cones, or any other “sticks” you can find in your home inventory (such as brooms, or walking sticks).

*You can start with your own legs that you stretch out, but for the gait training, you will need min. 4 bars that you can set down at a certain distance (for this reason I don’t recommend using a fixed/non-adjustable ladder).

An Object for Your Dog to Circle Around

That can be a taller cone, a flower bucket, or even a stool! It should be stable enough so it won’t tip over if your dog touches or leans against it.

Apart from this, you will also need:

  • Yummy treats
  • A treat bag (you can also use a smaller food bowl)
  • Toys
  • A clicker (optional: to use as a marker for when your dog does the right thing during your training session. You can also use your chosen verbal marker instead of a clicker, too.)

This was absolutely super online course. There were very good exercises and really good theory part. I am really happy that I entered my dogs to Fundamentals online course. Jana’s feedback for all the videos was very thorough.

I am really satisfied how my dogs looked after the course and how much better was their coordination.

Opportunity To Take Part In a Course Like This
Rarely Comes Around!

A course with this much knowledge and depth regarding puppy-specific fitness has never before been seen in such a simple, and easy to follow, ready-to-use format!

Does this Suit me?

This course is ideal for puppies and growing dogs, and you can start as early as at 8 weeks of age, starting with basic exercises and gradually progressing.

Suitable for all kinds of dogs: From Poodles, Terriers to Border Collies and German Shepherds – even the breeds with longer backs. Regardless of your dog’s breed, size, or color – this course is suitable for everyone that want to strengthen bond and have fun through dog fitness exercises.

The lessons are dedicated to exercising young dogs, with clear explanations, that promote safe, controlled, and low-impact body use. Follow recommendations and adapt exercises based on your pup’s age.

This course is ideal for puppies and growing dogs, aged at least 8 weeks old, but if your dog is already an adult, you might want to choose our follow-up FUNdamentals K9 conditioning course instead.

The basics are a great way to start working with a puppy/young dog, and promote safe, controlled, and low-impact body use. You will get them used to reward-based training and working with food. You will also familiarize them with different kinds of objects, platforms, and materials.

Remember. You will get lifetime access to all content. You don’t need to worry the course will end before your puppy is old enough for it.

Yes, we are sure. We have plenty of proof to back it up. Not just Border Collies. From Poodles to German Shepherds. You name it. All breeds are welcome here. After all, one of our demo dogs is Tilly, a west highland white terrier puppy!

The program is also suitable for dogs with longer backs. You will help them develop core strength which is super important for them. Using low equipment/platforms does the trick and the fact that we are working with the dog in front of us!

Yes! You will be guided with easy-to-follow step-by-step explanations and videos to work on body awareness, balance, proprioception, flexibility and active range of motion. However, this course is not meant to build your pup’s strength (nevertheless, he will acquire strength as an incidental outcome.). We work on that within our FUNdamentals Course, when your dog is old enough.

Health and safety concerns
